9th day of Chinese New Year

I get to see fireworks on most occasions, from my apartment on the 18th floor. The best part is during the 9th day of Chinese New Year where the Hokkiens pray to the Jade Emperor of Heaven. I can see fireworks display all over the horizon, 180°, from Batu Caves, Selayang and Kepong area. Beautiful.. sparks after sparks.. continuous display of fireworks on the horizon as early as 11pm and continues till about 2am.

The downside of traditional Chinese families living in apartments/condos. All prayers, burning and offerings had to be done on the balcony, even the sugarcane had to fit into the balcony. It can be quite dangerous to light a fire so close to your furniture, scary.

The houses below making offerings to the god, burning incenses, burning prayer/spell parchments, etc. Now this is what we called a proper offering ceremony, to start a fire on the grounds. We used to practice such ceremony when my grandparents are still alive and they really make a big fuss of the event.

If you look closely they were covering their ears from the explosive sound of the firecrackers. Sorry, that's the max the digicam can zoom.

My best shots from countless attempts with a Canon digicam.

I can still hear the explosives of firecrackers from near and far as I am writing this. Suddenly, the night is peaceful again, except for the dogs barking and the car alarms that was triggered by the explosions. Hope the gods above are happy and enjoy the fireworks display as much as we do.
